This tech tip is straight out of the SolidWorks Knowledge Database on the requirements for 2010 SolidWorks.

If your just loading SolidWorks most of these will load for you, but if the program is not working correctly then it might be worth working through this list one by one and  uninstall and then reinstall.

To uninstall you go into Control Panel and then “add-remove programs” or “programs and features” (vista or windows 7)

Just a simple internet search on any number of search engine (google, yahoo) will take you to Microsoft’s website to download and so that you can reinstall.

Question: What are the pre-requisites that need to be installed to ensure SolidWorks 2010 installs and functions properly?

Answer: SolidWorks 2010 requires all of the same pre-requisites that SolidWorks 2008 and 2009 did along with one new pre-requisite.

• Microsoft® .NET Framework 3.0 (encompasses .NET Framework 2.0 as well; x64 versions of SolidWorks require both an x86 and x64 version of this; is a core component of Microsoft Vista® and Windows® 7 and does not need to be installed separately on these operating systems)
• MSXML 6.0 Parser (this is automatically installed as part of .NET 3.0)
• MSXML 4.0 SP2
• Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components
• Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x64 versions of SolidWorks require both an x86 and x64 version of this)
• Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable (new to SolidWorks 2010; x64 versions of SolidWorks require both an x86 and x64 version of this)
• Microsoft Visual Studio (VSTA)
• Remote Debugger (x64 only)

The Installation Manager (IM) will install all of these automatically if they are not already installed.  (Note: for administrative images that have been created without the Installation Manager, these must be deployed separately before the SolidWorks installation is deployed.)

The executables for these files are included on the SolidWorks 2010 DVD/download except for MSXML 4.0 SP2; this can be downloaded and installed via Windows Update as it is a high priority update for Windows or via:
