How to manually populate file properties to existing files.

There is an automated way to do this on multiple files at once through the SolidWorks Task Scheduler, which I will cover in my next tip. This Tip will focus on the manual way to populate file properties.

This manual method is the quick and dirty way to do this on an as needed basis. For example when you download a file from 3dcontentcentral.com and it is being used in your assembly. To fit correctly into your documentation this downloaded part is required to have all the file properties that are being referenced on the drawings and in the Bill of materials.

To do this, open a part that has the appropriate file properties. Go to the file properties and highlight all of them by dragging down on the numbers:

Use Ctrl-C to copy the cells.

Open the file that you want to Copy the properties into, goto the file properties here and select the first Row and then use Ctrl-V to paste:

Notice that only the first Row was actually pasted into the file properties.

Now here is the ‘TRICK‘ portion, in order to get the rest of the file properties, click in the value cell and hit Enter:

Continue to click in the next value cell down and hit enter. (The down arrow works as good as picking on the next value cell).

And continue this until all your properties are pasted in.
