Measure Tool Tips

In my last tip I covered the use of the select tool and measuring with it. This covered about 80%-90% of commonly required measurements, so it is expected that tip left you wondering why we need the measure tool.In this tip I will discuss the added abilities of the measure tool.

Screen Feedback is added to clarify what is being measured along with matching triad axis color to designate delta measurements.

* Selecting on a face/surface – The area is calculated with the measure tool, which is absent from the select tool.
* Selecting 2 or more Faces/surfaces – The total area is calculated with the measure tool when .
* 2 Circle or arc edge/sketch entities – Arc conditions can be specified for measuring holes, or wall breakout.

Also you can override document unit settings to get the selected measurement in the desired units.

We can change the coordinate system referenced for the measurement, the part origin is the default.

You can project the measurement onto the view screen, a plane or planar face.

Here is an example of a Projection measurement -the dimension is the center distance as projected onto the selected face.

For example as we look down on that surface the Center distance between the holes is projected onto the selected face.
